Therapy Using Phone or Virtual Care in the Time of COVID-19

The move towards virtual visits for clinical services has been an upward trend in healthcare for some time, but COVID-19’s spread has prompted a more rapid shift.

Existing and new clients of Oshawa and Woodbine Psychological & Counselling Services can now access Therapy Services with their Psychologist/Clinician through phone or Virtual Care.

What is VirtualCare?

  • VirtualCare is a secure online platform from Think Research that is set up for health care professionals to deliver secure online care. It can be used with any device ( e.g., desktop, laptop, phone). It is fully PHIPA-compliant and exceeds Ontario’s legislated security requirements.

What is a Virtual Care appointment?

  •  A Virtual Care appointment is just like a regular consultation visit, only the Psychologist/ Clinician is seeing you and/or speaking with you on your computer, tablet or smartphone. The entire process is completed online and can be done in the safety and comfort of your home. Just like a regular office visit, your virtual care visit will be private and confidential.

What are the Procedures for setting up for a Phone appointment?

  • If you are a new or existing client and want to set up a phone session, please call
    • Oshawa Psychological & Counselling Services Phone: 905-721-7723
    • Woodbine Psychological & Counselling Services Phone: 416-628-6039
  • Once a phone session has been booked, a Consent form will be emailed to you.
  • Reception will call NEW clients for your first session to remind you of your appointment time. Depending on what you prefer for additional sessions, reminders can be in the form of a call, text or email.
  • Your Psychologist/clinician will call you at the time your phone appointment has been booked for.
  • Please ensure you are in a private setting for the phone call.
  • Please be on time. If you need to cancel or change your phone appointment, you must notify the office in advance.
  • Agree to a back-up plan (e.g., alternative phone number where you can be reached) to restart the session or to reschedule it, in the event of technical problems
